Count four in the 2023 indictment of Donald Trump for trying to overturn the 2020 election was “Conspiracy Against Rights.” It lays out how Trump conspired to undermine the Constitutionally-guaranteed right to vote and have one’s vote counted. Because Donald Trump was never held responsible for his attempts to thwart our electoral process, his administration has been preparing for another attempt — this time to alter the upcoming midterms. Ali Velshi takes on the question with political commentators Harry Sisson and Joe Walsh.
As the 2026 midterms get closer, Trump continues to escalate his assault on America’s electoral system. His insistence that Congress forgo passing legislation to help Americans through this volatile economy and stabilize housing costs to instead pass his SAVE Act, designed to make it more expensive and difficult to cast a ballot, appear to be an effort to reduce the number of Americans who can and will vote in the midterms where polling suggests Republicans will pay the price for Trump’s actions.
Supreme Court rulings that expand Trump’s power also threaten to politicize what should be independent agencies, not the least of which are the Department of Justice, the U.S.P.S., and now, the Federal Election Commission. The Trump administration’s focus, Velshi says, is to hold on to power.
