AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

We are looking for a Philly resident to take over The Citizen social media, connect with our audience, and grow our online community. You’ll…

  • Maintain the Citizen social media calendar with help from contributors
  • Create the weekly newsletter
  • Provide your own take on Citizen articles on social posts to spark conversation. You’ll be able to manage ongoing threads, ensuring they remain respectful and relevant.
  • Connect with thought leaders and influencers in the civic space online, with the goal of getting them to engage with and share Citizen content.
  • Identify and improve opportunities for conversion to The Citizen website, sponsorship, and membership
  • Support graphic design for social media posts and YouTube thumbnails, and properly format provided video and photo content.
  • Publicize Citizen events and get partners, speakers, and sponsors aligned in social promotion strategies. You’ll also be in-person for all Citizen events, posting real-time updates and capturing behind the scenes (1-2 events per month)
  • Research keyword trends and optimize daily editorial content, manage link building, and oversee content strategies to improve organic rankings
  • Manage paid advertising campaigns and sponsored posts
  • Track and report on monthly progress.

Ideally you…

  • Have 2-4 years of experience in SEO and managing content on WordPress, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok with a history of success in audience growth
  • Have a deep interest in news, cultural and civic happenings in Philadelphia
  • Are proficient in media tools like Adobe Creative Cloud, Hootsuite, Canva, Keynote, Google Workspace and basic video editing software
  • Are proficient in analytic software and working knowledge of HTML/CSS
  • Are interested in making Philadelphia a better place and highlighting the great things people are doing across the city
  • Are tactful and respectful in online conversations and have experience in building a distinct brand voice
  • Open and willing to learn new tools, platforms and techniques as trends change

DIRECTOR OF SALES & PHILANTHROPY

The Philadelphia CItizen, the only local nonprofit media outlet that combines solutions journalism with calls to civic action as a means to revive democracy, is looking to hire a passionate and ambitious Philadelphian to be our new Director of Sales and Philanthropy. In this position you’ll report to the co-executive directors to:

  • Leverage corporate relationships to sell sponsorship packages for event series and signature events
  • Leverage relationships to secure grant and other philanthropic donations
  • Evaluate and expand on current sponsorship agreements
  • Manage reporting processes and sponsorship database
  • Develop and execute strategies and opportunities for revenue generation through sales and philanthropy
  • Oversee execution of sponsorship agreements
  • Manage relationships with sponsors and other funders, including at occasional evening and early morning events throughout the year

All with the goal of bringing in the resources to propel The Citizen’s growth and impact over the next several years.

Ideally you:

  • Are dedicated to civic and social responsibility
  • Are civically-engaged and passionate about making Philadelphia a better place to live for everyone
  • Are an entrepreneurial self-starter
  • Have experience with corporate/sponsorship sales with existing contacts and strong relationships throughout the Philadelphia corporate community
  • Have a proven track record of sales success
  • Are collaborative and creative with disparate stakeholders

This is a hybrid position, with most work being done remotely. There will be some in-person requirements, whether to meet potential or current sponsors or for the occasional in-person meeting. Applicants must be based in the Greater Philadelphia area. This is a full time position with generous salary and benefits, as well as a bonus for meeting agreed-upon goals.
