We are looking for a Philly resident to take over The Citizen social media, connect with our audience, and grow our online community. You’ll…

  • Maintain the Citizen social media calendar with help from contributors
  • Create the weekly newsletter
  • Provide your own take on Citizen articles on social posts to spark conversation. You’ll be able to manage ongoing threads, ensuring they remain respectful and relevant.
  • Connect with thought leaders and influencers in the civic space online, with the goal of getting them to engage with and share Citizen content.
  • Identify and improve opportunities for conversion to The Citizen website, sponsorship, and membership
  • Support graphic design for social media posts and YouTube thumbnails, and properly format provided video and photo content.
  • Publicize Citizen events and get partners, speakers, and sponsors aligned in social promotion strategies. You’ll also be in-person for all Citizen events, posting real-time updates and capturing behind the scenes (1-2 events per month)
  • Research keyword trends and optimize daily editorial content, manage link building, and oversee content strategies to improve organic rankings
  • Manage paid advertising campaigns and sponsored posts
  • Track and report on monthly progress.

Ideally you…

  • Have 2-4 years of experience in SEO and managing content on WordPress, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok with a history of success in audience growth
  • Are proficient in media tools like Adobe Creative Cloud, Hootsuite, Canva, Keynote, Google Workspace and basic video editing software
  • Are proficient in analytic software and working knowledge of HTML/CSS
  • Are interested in making Philadelphia a better place and highlighting the great things people are doing across the city
  • Are tactful and respectful in online conversations and have experience in building a distinct brand voice
  • Open and willing to learn new tools, platforms and techniques as trends change

This is a full-time position in the 40-45k range with health benefits and PTO. You will report to the executive editor and work closely with the publishing and events team. The scope of services includes:

  • Leveraging relationships to sell sponsorship packages for series and signature events, including The Citizen’s annual Ideas We Should Steal Festival, and established series like Development…for Good
  • Evaluating and expanding on current sponsorship agreements
  • Developing and executing strategies and opportunities for revenue generation
  • Overseeing execution of sponsorship agreements
  • Managing relationships with sponsors and other funders
  • Working collaboratively with operations to move new partnerships through the sponsorship process


  • Experience with corporate/sponsorship sales with existing contacts and strong relationships throughout the Philadelphia corporate community
  • Mid-level to senior experience with a proven track record of success
  • An ability to communicate the Citizen’s unique mission
  • Competence in Google Workspace and online communication tools
  • Dedicated to civic and social responsibility and passionate about making Philadelphia a better place

This is a hybrid position, with most work being done remotely. There will be some in-person requirements, whether to meet potential or current sponsors or for the occasional in-person meeting. Applicants must be based in the Greater Philadelphia area. This is a full time position with generous salary and benefits.
