Pennsylvania is the nation’s top electricity exporter and a leading natural gas producer. How can the Commonwealth leverage its energy abundance to lower emissions, protect the grid, and help working families — all at the same time? The Philadelphia Citizen invites you to join us for a thought leadership discussion hosted by Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future. Former two-term Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, former two-term Pennsylvania Auditor General and Chair of PA Dems Eugene DePasquale, and Executive Director of Build Philly Now Ali Perelman will be moderated by Citizen Media Group CEO Larry Platt in a discussion that explores a “big tent” approach that includes natural gas, renewables, and nuclear power to achieve carbon reduction goals andturbocharge the economy. The stakes couldn’t be higher. This event is free and open to the public, but RSVP is required.

Two and a half centuries on, you probably think you know the story of the American Revolution, its founders, and all the people who molded the triumphant young nation that emerged after the fight. But you likely don’t know Thomas Willing, one of the major funders of the Revolution who didn’t just shape the new country but arguably saved it in its earliest days.
In this first installment of The Philadelphia Promise: A Series In Search of a More Perfect Union, banker, policy advisor and public intellectual Richard Vague will talk with Philadelphia magazine editor Christy Speer Lejeune, about the life and legacy of Willing, America’s preeminent merchant trader and first central banker — and the lessons we can take for our nation today. Entry is $5. Free to Citizen and Fitler Club members. $35 for book pre-order.

Join us for third annual Citizen of the Year Awards, an evening that inspires citizenship, elevates those who embody The Citizen’s mission of solutions-focused action, and activates more Philadelphians to make change. Our annual Citizen of the Year program, launched in 2024, is about more than celebrating do-gooders — it is about building a network of changemakers within Philadelphia, and positioning them as role models for the next generation. Over time, we hope to see these awards empower more citizens to be active in making Philadelphia the best place to live for everyone in it.
