Do You Have a Philly Idea Worth Scaling Up?

Calling all small nonprofits and do-good businesses: Enter now for a chance to present your homegrown innovation at this year’s Ideas We Should Scale Showcase

Last year’s Ideas We Should Scale Showcase made one thing clear: Philadelphia already has many of the solutions it needs to build a stronger, safer, more thriving city.

The event was designed to uplift Philadelphians who are actively addressing issues in their communities. Three outstanding organizations — the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, The Merchants Fund and Philly Truce Foundation — got on stage at the Linc and pitched their ideas for how to increase their impact to a room full of funders. They talked about supporting small businesses through rocky economic times, reducing gun violence with a local peace patrol, and teaching more elementary schoolers how to bike safely. The crowd left ready to uplift new solutions to common problems.

For nearly a decade, The Philadelphia Citizen has been highlighting innovative solutions worth stealing from outside of the city with our signature Ideas We Should Steal Festival presented by Comcast and Ideas We Should Steal column. We launched Ideas We Should Scale last year to highlight local changemakers looking to amplify the impact of their homegrown solutions. We held the event the night before the Ideas We Should Steal fest as an opening act, of sorts, to bring people together to think about how they can support leaders in our city.

This year, we’re bringing the program directly to the Ideas We Should Steal festival to reach even more people eager to support and uplift the innovative ideas that are already making a difference in Philly. And we’re asking you to submit your ideas worth scaling!

How it works: we’re asking registered nonprofits, benefit corporations, or B Corps with an operating budget of $2 million or less to submit short videos (three minutes or less) telling us what your organization does, what impact you’ve had so far, and how you would grow your work if you had additional funding and support. That could look like adding a new product or service, opening a second office in another city or growing your impact right here in Philly. Submit by October 30.

Then, we’ll share the entries on our site while our judges review them and select three awesome local changemakers to present their ideas worth scaling to an audience of more than 500 highly-engaged Philadelphians and potential funders on December 8 during a panel at our Ideas We Should Steal Festival.
