Ideas We Should Steal Festival 2018 Video & Audio: Can Tech Solve the Opioid Crisis?

Listen or watch New America's Afua Bruce on using technology and data to combat the country's opioid epidemic. Then vote for her idea

At The Citizen’s inaugural Ideas We Should Steal Festival, Afua Bruce, New America’s Public Interest Technology Program Engineering Director demonstrated how mapping the opioid crisis—first as a way to connect survivors, then as a way to help more people survive—is one of many ways in which well-planned tech can serve the public good.

”When you figure out how to do something that works it’s nice to pat yourself on the back,” said Bruce, “but it’s nicer to share with others to reach more communities.”

If you missed the discussion, or simply want to hear it again, listen on CitizenCast below.

Bruce offered an Idea We Should Steal: Joining other communities across America in the fight against the opioid epidemic by sharing data, such as maps of overdoses, deaths, naloxone locations, and old prescription drop boxes.
