The Philadelphia Citizen and Accountability Lab invite you to join us for the Integrity Icon Philadelphia 2023 Awards Celebration presented by 6abc. We will honor the heroes who are winners of this year’s contest to name the highest integrity city workers featuring a conversation with former Mayor of Philadelphia Michael Nutter and Citizen co-founder Larry Platt on the importance of integrity in public service.

THIS YEAR’S INTEGRITY ICONS ARE:

Tu Huynh

Program Manager, Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy

Tu Huynh has spent his lifetime supporting artists and art that reflects who we are as a city, our darkest times and our hopes for the future.

Maria Andrea Giraldo Gallo

Former Director of Language Access Programs, Office of Immigrant Affairs

Maria Andrea Giraldo Gallo is a multilingual immigrant from Colombia who welcomed refugees arriving to Philly by plane and by bus, with support in their own language and culturally sensitive resources like prayer mats. She recently moved to a new position.

Ryan Barksdale

Community Relations Officer, Philadelphia Police Department

Ryan Barksdale brings free food to families affected by cancer, hosts community block parties, organizes basketball games and Christmas gift drives, and gives his personal cell phone number to all.

Yessenia Gutierrez

Former Compliance Officer, the Office of Worker Protections

Yessenia Gutierrez returned hundreds of thousands of dollars to the wallets of Philadelphians, helping them navigate complex systems to get the money they deserve. She recently moved to a new position.

Kea R. Greene

Communications and Community Engagement Manager in the Office of Criminal Justice

Kea Greene is a social justice leader who (among other things) has helped nearly 150 Philadelphians expunge criminal records that have been holding them back from transformative jobs and opportunities.

Integrity Icon 2023 is The Philadelphia Citizen’s third annual contest to name the non-elected city employees who have demonstrated the highest ethics and integrity in their work. In partnership with Accountability Lab—which has run Integrity Icon competitions throughout the world since 2012—The Citizen has made Philadelphia the first and only American city to participate in the program.

After a citywide nominating process earlier this year, a panel of civic leaders selected five workers who best embodied the simple but powerful criteria: a high-integrity public service employee is respectful and caring; knows their work makes a difference to people’s lives; acts in a trustworthy and transparent way to solve problems the best they can; treats everyone equally, without regard to politics or influence; and goes above and beyond to provide good service to Philadelphians.

All of this year’s Integrity Icons are bona fide heroes. But we asked you to select one as this year’s “people’s choice” winner who will be announced at the celebration. Learn more about them:
