SUPPORT THE CITIZEN THIS GIVING SEASON

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

That was the advice given by the late tennis great and civil rights activist Arthur Ashe to those who, in past troubled times, found themselves down and discouraged. How, in this turbulent era, can we channel Ashe? One way is by supporting The Citizen, the only local media outlet that focuses on solutions to problems and on providing the tools to help Philadelphians take action in their local community.

With your help, we can be the antidote to the failures of big media, the bitterness of national politics, your post-election malaise and the confusion about what to do now. Together, we have the power to make change in our city — to hope, to be a helper and to support solutions to our problems when you see them. Help us in reaching our goal today:

There’s a reason we reimagine Giving Tuesday and call our annual end of year fundraising campaign Democracy Monday: because every penny you give us, every action you take, every new person you tell about The Citizen advances our mission — to reinvigorate democracy and citizenship in the American city where they were born. Your dollar will directly fund…

• Trustworthy and reliable local journalism

• Reporting that holds elected officials to account

• Tools you need to work for change in our city.

I am kicking off our fundraising with a humble request: Will you please join our army of civic do-gooders by donating to support The Philadelphia Citizen today? Become a member with any donation to this campaign no matter the amount.

Yours in citizenship,
Roxanne Patel Shepelavy
Philadelphia Citizen Executive Director
