Listen: Ali Velshi on Trump, The Wannabe One-Day Dictator

MSNBC Host Ali Velshi stands before an image of Trump labeling himself a dictator

Trump doubles down on his dictator for a day claims

Is the United States, as Liz Cheney fears, sleepwalking into a dictatorship? If we believe what Donald Trump is saying about his plans for his second term, Ali Velshi agrees we may be. Trump is bluntly and openly telling the country about his autocratic goals, to applause from the New York Young Republican Club and with the apparent blessing of the Republican Party.

“There’s no reason not to believe Donald Trump when he says he wants to be a dictator,” says Velshi. “What is unbelievable is that Trump, who’s not exactly known for his restraint or self-discipline, would actually stop after day one.”

Republican political figures like J.D. Vance are adopting Trump’s pattern of threatening journalists and investigators doing their job of holding people accountable. This represents a direct threat to democracy, and it isn’t just coming from a potential presidential candidate. The GOP’s “march to the right” is fueling our dysfunction in Congress, putting our basic rights and national security on the line.
