Former President Donald Trump is pleading his case to the U.S. Supreme Court. He says since he was president during the January 6 insurrection, he is immune from prosecution for his role in these events. Trump also claims putting him on trial is “double jeopardy” — because he was impeached by Congress. Ali Velshi welcomes Democratic Representative from the U.S. Virgin Islands Stacey Plaskett, who served as impeachment manager during Trump’s second impeachment, to discuss the law and the disturbing statements the again-presidential candidate has been making on the campaign trail.
At a New Hampshire rally last month, Trump cited his relationships with autocratic leaders Vladimir Putin, Victor Orban and Kim Jon Un, invoking them for the crowd as references supporting his leadership ability. He also floated giving police officers absolute immunity. These bizarre comments make for “some weird stuff,” to say the least, notes Velshi.
“Trump is saying out loud what he thinks, and we as the American people need to put it on loop and remind ourselves that if he should be re-elected, he is only going to do far worse than he did in his first term,” wants Rep. Plaskett.
