Former President Donald Trump faces 91 criminal charges related to his conduct before, during and after his time in office. These charges do not include his civil suits related to his real estate business and sexual assault. Going into the 2024 election, Trump’s legal situation, says Ali Velshi, is “complicated.”

And it’s getting more so. A U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit is considering Trump’s claim that as a former president, he has “absolute immunity” that protects him from all criminal charges based on things he did while president. (A three-judge panel decides that case January 9, 2024.)

Meanwhile, in Colorado … seven state Supreme Court justices have faced threats after they ruled that the 14th Amendment bars the former president, whom it claimed incited the January 6, 2021 insurrection, from running for office again. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold agrees with her state’s Supreme Court, calling Trump “a threat to the stability of this nation.”
