Philadelphia Integrity Icon 2022: Meet Winner Stephanie Ridgeway

This photo accompanies a writeup about 2022 Philadelphia Integrity Icon winner Stephanie Ridgeway

Last fall, we launched our second Integrity Icon contest, to identify the most principled, hardworking, service-oriented city workers in Philadelphia. After vetting the nominations, we sent a shortlist to our group of judges, who picked five incredible winners to be Philadelphia’s 2022 Integrity Icons.

One of those is Stephanie Ridgeway, Indego community organizer for the Office of Transportation, Infrastructure and Sustainability.

As a biking ambassador, Ridgeway can be found riding from one end of the city to another on an Indego bicycle, educating residents, coordinating with community groups and working to increase access to the bike-share program for all Philadelphians.

Under her watch, Indego has grown the number of bikes in underserved neighborhoods, by listening and working with community members to ensure the program is serving their needs. That stems from Ridgeway’s keen commitment to spreading the message that Indego is a public service—even if not necessarily the most important service a neighborhood needs—and ensuring her team acts with the trust and integrity that it requires that requires.

“Before you work for the city you have all these ideas of what to do,” Ridgeway says, “but when you work for the city you can implement those things. The idea was to make bike share accessible to all the communities in Philadelphia; a lot of times in areas of high gentrification people see bike share and think this is not for people who look like me. Equity is an action word.”
