Citizen Board Member and MSNBC host Ali Velshi marks the fifth anniversary of the day the #MeToo movement went viral (October 15, 2017), by visiting how it began, what happened in intervening years, and what’s next.
In case you’ve forgotten: It was started years earlier by activist and community organizer Tarana Burke. And, it picked up the year after the first women became nominated by major political party nominated to run for President, and after women nationwide marched to react to a misogynist winning the election.
Velshi recognizes the genius and bravery of movement founder Burke, and also recognizes that some of the most headline-grabbing outcomes from the movement took place in right there 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where he himself works.
He says, “If you’ve never had to use the word rape in conversation, you’re probably a man.”
